Gerbera Flower History

If you don't already know, the Gerbera daisy is atype of daisy! It originates in Africa -  In 1727, the Gerbera flower was discovered in Africa by Mr. Gronovius, a botanist from Leiden. Mr.Gronovius decided to call the plant after his colleague, Traugott Gerber, a German botanist and medical doctor.

 In 1827, the gerbera flower was then introduced to the United Kingdom and had the production was further refined and cultivated in the UK. Since the year 1950, the Netherlands was known as the largest country in the field of Gerbera development. - Moving to In 1975, the Gerbera Daisy has become a very popular flower and Gerberas were highly exported abroad.

The Gerbera flower belongs to the flower family Asteraceae. It is also a non-fragrant flower. The joyful flower can be grown both indoors and outdoors and are commonly used as flowers in Easter bouquets. They come in a few colors: white, yellow, orange, and pink hues.

Characterized by large flowering heads that closely resemble other flowers (for example, the sunflower), gerbera daisies often come in a vibrant rainbow of colors like pink, white, yellow, and red. The gerbera flower currently ranks as the fifth most popular flower, behindroses, carnations,chrysanthemums, andtulips. Sending these gerbera daisies is the perfect way to brighten someone’s day. In the present day, Gerberas are cultivated all over the world and known for their bright colors and a joyful aesthetics. However, most gerberas that you come across today are probably a hybrid of Gerbera jamesonii and Gerbera viridifolia. Some other popular varieties under the Gerber genus are called the Transvaal daisy and the lollipop Gerber.
